Sky High Gazebo Sierra Nevada Foothills, CA

Lacy Gazebo Project Oakdale, CA

Eric wanted only four posts for his gazebo. He also wanted to use the garage in a waterproof condition, this is the design we came up with.

Sutter's Mill Coloma,CA

The rebuilding of Sutter's Mill has begun! We have started working on the shop drawings for rebuilding the historic Sutter's Mill, the site where gold was discovered in California in 1848. An article Paul wrote in 2002 Sutter's Mill TF63.PDF provides some interesting history about Sutter's Mill.

UC Santa Cruz Hay Barn Santa Cruz, CA

Paul just finished the deconstruction of the UC Santa Cruz hay barn, with accompanying descriptive text and photographs to document every bent, brace, and post. The barn will be recontructed in time, and all the details and measurements of the existing barn are being carefully documented to enable authentic rebuilding of the barn. For example, the following excerpt from the daily log describes the deconstuction process that includes recording and salvaging the original parts of the barn.

"(On March 24,2014) I photographed the barn from the four vantage points, which show the deconstruction process of the east wall purlin plate along with the purlin posts and braces. In this batch of photographs there are images (coming later) which shows a section of purlin plate with post and braces depicting a block of wood under the brace which was used to fix a mistake in the layout and is called a Dutchmen in the stone and wood trades. It's origin is based on the frugalness of the Dutch, and here I quote Knights Mechanical Dictionary (Carpentry)  "a playful name for a block or wedge driven into a gap to hide the fault of a badly made joint".

Daily logs that include photo-documentation were kept for every phase of the barn deconstruction.
